Our Story: A Sanctuary Built for the Next Generation

At the heart of Itasca County, a new standard for childhood is rising. Co-founding sisters Bobi Schaar and Betti Nilson—affectionately known as "The Sisters"—imagined a world designed specifically for the curiosity and wonder of children. Born from a deep commitment to our local community, Buzy Bugz Playland (BBP), known as "The Hive," will be a 10-15,000 sq. ft. indoor playground and sanctuary engineered for intentional, screen-free play. We believe that while adults have their own social spaces, our youth deserve a world built entirely for them. The Hive is more than just a facility; it is a vital community infrastructure project designed to be a safe, all-weather haven where the magic of old-school play meets the needs of modern families.

Learning in Disguise: The Heart of the Hive

Our philosophy is simple: children learn best when they are doing what they do best—playing. By intentionally moving away from flashing screens and digital noise, we will create a tactile, sensory-rich environment where children ages 0–12 can develop physical literacy and fine/gross motor skills naturally. From our custom-engineered play structures to our Bee-Schooled STEM stations, every inch of The Hive is designed to spark discovery. Through our unique Parent-Partner Model, we invite caregivers to step away from the distractions of the outside world and engage directly in their child’s growth, fostering a deeper bond in a beautifully lit, calm, and joyful atmosphere.

The integrity of The Hive is anchored by our DISH Initiative: a mandate for Discovery, Inclusion, Safety, and Hygiene. We have set a new regional gold standard by integrating high-tech security, such as our Hive-Sync RFID system, with rigorous sanitation protocols such as: antimicrobial facility coatings, strict cleaning routines, grippy socks and more to ensure a premium, high-trust environment. Whether it’s a healthy snack at the Cafe or an afternoon on the slides, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive “Third Space” where no child is turned away (scholarships), and every family belongs. Backed by over 20 years of combined management and childcare experience, we aren't just building a playground; we are investing in the future potential of our community’s children.
